Do you know that U.S purchased Louisiana from France ?

Most people have known that US bought Alaska from Russia, but there are not many people know about the purchasing of Louisiana from France by US government. According to the history of US-Fr diplomatic relation, on April 30 1803 U.S sent its representatives to Paris for signing a deal of purchasing land which is approximately 828,000 square miles and stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. This deal know as Louisiana purchase that was priced about $15 million. We might think that the price is too cheap(nearly 3 cents per arc) for America, but in fact this price was more than the U.S could afford. As a result, the U.S decided to borrow money from the European Banks with 6 percents interest. Then until 1923 the U.S finished repaying loan to the European Banks and the total cost of the land was up to $23 millions. Actually the most important thing that motivated the French King Napoleon Bonaparte to sale this land is urgently needing money for preparing itself for war with Great Britain.
For Alaska territory, based on the bilateral treaty between U.S and Russia on purchasing Alaska territory in 1867, this territory was sold only $7.2 million and it was signed by Secretary of State William Seward and Russian Minister to the United States Edouard de Stoeck.
