New law for Victims in Philippines
New law for Victims
Today in 1986 President of Philippines Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos fled in exile to Hawaii by using US Helicopter. President Marco had been known as the head of dictatorial government and got elected in 1966. He and his wife moved billions of dollars of embezzled public funds to accounts and investments in the United States, Switzerland, and other countries. Most people were suffered very much from living under dictatorial regime of Mr Marco. This Monday the Philippine president Benigno Aquino has signed a law to give compensation to victims of the country's former president Ferdinand Marcos. The government also announced that there will be at least 10 billion pesos ($224m: £148m) to compensate thousands of people who suffered rights abuses in the Marcos era. This is a good method for countries that have the former dictator leader to follow. It's not only for curing the suffering of his own citizens but also help appeal to international community as well as increase the president popularity.
