Putin's dream " Eurasian Union"

Image
Eurasian Economic Union is the Russian-led economic alliance consisting of four countries such as Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, and Armenia while Kyrgyzstan is scheduled to join this economic union in May 2015.   Actually, the president of Russia  Vladimir Putin  has already claimed that the establishment of Eurasian union is his foreign policy priority when he served as Russia's prime minister in 2011, and he intends to bring back the Soviet Union in years to come by convincing other former states of Soviet Union to join his proposed alliance. Russia is now welcome and opens the door for all former Soviet states as well as Baltic and Balkan states to integrate into this customs union. However, Russian led-customs union is seen weaker economically comparing to other unions, and there are many issues that this union has to address. Russia has to do much more in order to build up the strong union as the same as Soviet Union especially it needs to put more effort

Freedom of Expression and Media Rights in Myanmar Three Years after Reforms

Image
It has been almost 3 years after Myanmar military junta transferred power to civilian government in 2011. Chronologically, Myanmar had been ruled by military government for almost 5 dec ades after Burmese generals staged a coupe in 1962, ended the democratic regime. Actually, during the military rule human rights were severely abused. As a matter of fact, people's fundamental rights and freedoms, particularly freedom of expression and media rights had been largely restricted by the government. Myanmar's junta decided to implement the policies and laws which regulated strictly and monitored closely on any of its people's activities in order to prevent the threat to the survival of the dictatorial government in the country. Importantly, freedom of expression and press were not guaranteed by laws and constitution of the country, and every publication includes newspaper was censored by the military regime. Moreover, any people who criticized the military rule and its off

Why Vietnamese government tries to strictly control media rights?

Historically, a fter decolonization of France from Vietnam in 1954, Vietnam was divided into two along 17 th parallel (North and South Vietnam) according to Geneva peace accord. The North Vietnam was ruled by communist leader, Ho Chi Minh , while the South was ruled by king Bao Dai. In 1955, G. Ngo Dinh Diem which was backed by the U.S. overthrew  the King Bao Dai and came to power as a president of the Republic of Vietnam. The involvement of the U.S. in Vietnam led to the “Second Indochina War” which known as Vietnam War. Due to many factors such as the anti-war protests, long bloodiest war, and massive spending on military intervention, Nixon Administration sought the way to end the war and decided to withdraw its troops from Vietnam by negotiating with North Vietnam and signing Paris Peace Accord in 1973. In 1975, North Vietnam troops, which led by communist leader Ho Chi Minh, won over the South, and seized control Saigon. Finally, North and South were officially unified

Why Rohingya Has Never Been Granted Citizenship ?

Image
Rohingyas, Burmese Muslim minority group, have been living with the fear of violence and religious discrimination while they have been still considered as the stateless people and unwanted group on the Earth. Historically, Rohingyas were illegal immigrants who fled from the Bengali in Bangladesh. They have lived in Myanmar’s state of Rakhine for many decades, yet they have not been granted citizenship and recognized as legal ethnic groups in the country.       When talking about the human rights abuses in Myanmar, people never forget the Muslim minority Rohingya who are residing in Northern of Rakhine state. Rohingya refugees have been severely repressed and discriminated by Myanmar's government and citizens especially after breaking out of the religious conflict in late 2011. Myanmar's government always considers Rohingyas as the illegal immigrants who fled from its neighboring country Bangladesh and many people called them Bengali. Historically, some of them have be

Why Putin doesn't accept Donetsk's accession to Russia ?

Image
Self proclaimed region " Donetsk People's Republic" has appealed to Russian president Vladimir Putin to consider its accession with Russia. However, he seems to be so reluctant and n ot rushes to grab the territory as he did in March after referendum in Crimea.  Additionally, Putin has also called the pro-Russian groups in the East to postpone the voting that was held in favor of seeking independence from the Ukrainian government, but his suggestion has been ignored. This means that Putin is trying to distance Russia from Ukrainian crisis, especially the uprising in the Eastern part of Ukraine. Actually, there are many reasons why Putin is less interested in annexing Donetsk and Lugansk. Firstly, the both regions are not a vital strategic territory to be annexed. If we focus on the geography, the two regions are not worth to Russia as Crimea peninsula. Control of Crimea can undeniably provide much more benefits to Russia especially military benefits. Moreover, it g

Myanmar, Golden land for the investors and majority but the hell for Rohingya

IMF managing director Christine Lagarde has said Myanmar is truly a Golden land with a golden future amid her brief visit to the country in December last year and it seems to be true.Currently, Myanmar is now enjoying with its rapid economic growth, the flow of foreign direct investment, the flow of financial aid, the ease of economic sanctions, as well as the removal of trade embargo. B esides having made the political reforms, this country has also decided to adopt the new exchange rate by changing from restriction exchange rate to the floating exchange rate system. This means that the change is really good for state's economy, and the state itself would be able to call for greater financial integration. Ultimately, Myanmarese government will be able to reduce the poverty, raise the people's living standard, increase spending on healthcare and education, and people will be living enjoyably with the dramatic change of the society. However, not every Myanmarese enjoys wit
